My Date Insisted on Paying the Bill – I Wish I Hadn’t Let Him

When Eric insisted on paying for our first date, I thought I had met a true gentleman. He arrived with roses, a small gift, and effortless charm. Mia, my best friend, had set us up, swearing I’d love him.

The date was near perfect—he was attentive, engaging, and seemed genuinely interested in me. Conversation flowed, we shared interests, and when the check arrived, he shut down my offer to split it. “A man always pays on the first date,” he declared.

The next morning, I woke up to a shocking text—an invoice. Professionally formatted, it listed “charges” like a hug for the flowers, a coffee date in return for the keychain, and a second date as payment for dinner. At the bottom: “Failure to comply may result in collections (Chris will hear about it).”

Stunned, I sent it to Mia. She showed Chris, who responded with his own invoice—mocking Eric’s ridiculous expectations. Chris then sent it to Eric, triggering a flurry of angry texts before I blocked him.

The only thing I kept? The keychain. Not for Eric—just as a hilarious souvenir of the weirdest date ever
