“Transformation of the Week”: Enjoy This Before & After Kitchen Makeover
Brooklyn architect Gerry Smith embarked on a remarkable journey of transformation with a 1910 neoclassical brownstone. The house, steeped in a century of history, underwent a stunning metamorphosis under Smith’s skilled hands.
The focal point of Smith’s renovation was the kitchen, a space in dire need of modernization to accommodate a bustling family of five who cherished the art of entertaining. With a delicate balance of innovation and preservation, Smith succeeded in infusing contemporary elements while preserving the house’s historical charm.
Light became the cornerstone of Smith’s design philosophy for the kitchen. Confronting its dark confines, he orchestrated a symphony of illumination, introducing a skylight and windows on three sides. Additionally, he expanded an existing window, seamlessly integrating new steel French doors, thus ushering in an abundance of natural light and fostering a seamless connection with the outdoors.
