Oscar winner Gene Hackman and wife found dead in Santa Fe home

Gene Hackman, the two-time Oscar-winning actor, and his wife, Betsy Arakawa, were found dead in their $3.8 million Santa Fe home on Wednesday morning. The couple, married since 1991, was discovered alongside their dog, though the exact time of their deaths is unknown. Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza stated that no foul play is suspected. The cause of death remains under investigation.

Sheriff Mendoza clarified, “We’re in the middle of a preliminary death investigation, waiting on a search warrant,” but assured the public that there was no immediate danger to the community.

Gene Hackman, renowned for his incredible career in Hollywood, starred in over 70 films. He won Academy Awards for his roles in The French Connection (Best Actor) and Unforgiven (Best Supporting Actor). Hackman was lauded for his versatility, seamlessly playing villains and heroes across various genres.

After retiring from acting nearly two decades ago, Hackman focused on hobbies like fishing, painting, and writing. His health had become a concern following a stress test in 2009, where doctors advised him to reduce stress.

Tributes poured in, including a heartfelt message from actor George Takei, who called Hackman a “true giant of the screen.” At the time of their deaths, Hackman was 95, and Arakawa was 63.
