Couple says restaurant fined them for ‘poor parenting’ – the restaurant owner then reveals the truth.
Eating out with children can be tough for parents, sometimes leading to a stressful dining experience. A restaurant in North Georgia, Toccoa Riverside Restaurant, sparked controversy by introducing a policy to fine customers for ‘poor parenting.’
A Reddit user shared their experience, stating they were told a $50 fee would be added to their bill due to their children’s behavior. Restaurant owner Tim Richter clarified that while a surcharge was implemented during COVID-19, it was never enforced until a recent incident with a large family whose children were unruly. He warned the parents but did not actually charge them.
Customer reactions varied. Laura Spillman from Florida was shocked, while Anne Cox thought the policy might encourage better behavior. Federico Gambineri, dining with his young child, worried about the potential charge and its impact on his dining choices. Regular customer Jack Schneider had mixed feelings, recognizing the frustration of dining near misbehaving children but emphasizing parental responsibility.
